The gift shop at Jakes

Seawata is the gift shop on the grounds of Jakes Hotel in Calabash Bay. Jakes is the hand-built, locally crafted hotel that many travellers know by name, and by its own account it started the bohemian-Caribbean look on Jamaica's south coast.

It also works as a gathering place: locals, Jamaicans from across the island and visitors from abroad all pass through. Seawata's online shop at seawata.com is Jakes's newer way to carry that connection beyond the property, so that people far from Treasure Beach can still take part in it.

The shop wants to keep the place as unusual as it has always been, a mix of fishers, artists, farmers and everyone else who calls the community home.

Can't get to Calabash Bay? Shop online

  • Paying: American Express, Mastercard and Visa are accepted.
  • Getting it: orders are processed within three business days. Most things ship within ten days of the order, and embroidered or all-over print items can take a little longer.
  • Returns: everything is made to order, so purchases can't be refunded.
